As far as the radio goes, the setup right out of the box is adequate to get talking, but if you want to utilize the other functions the offer you'll need to go online and find a user guide you can actually read. The radio is also user programmable via software and a cable.

These are great radios and will last a number of years of hard daily use. We use them in a commercial greenhouse and still get good life out of them. Expect to replace the battery pack after a couple of years. They get dropped a lot and still continue to work. The belt clip is pretty wimpy - it will break.
